Nature and Outdoors

Here you’ll find fiction and non-fiction relating to the natural world. From important works by renowned naturalists such as Charles Darwin and John Muir, to adventurers such as Joshua Slocum and Theodore Roosevelt, we plan to cover it all.

The Grand Cañon on the Colorado
John Muir

Scottish born naturalist and outdoorsman John Muir wrote this essay for the November 1902 issue of The Century Illustrated Monthly. Our reprint has been carefully edited and annotated, and is illustrated with new photographs of the Grand Canyon (display in color on color devices). Also included is a new, photo illustrated Afterword that brings some of Muir’s themes into modern times.
